Derailed

I went generously treated to dinner by my inlaws tonight and apparently I lost all sense of reason when ordering. I thought I was doing a bit better, but this just serves to remind me that I need to stay really focused if I want to get back on track!

FOOD & BEVERAGES:
- 4 glasses of water
- 2 toasted whole wheat English muffins with egg, bacon, cheese, and margarine
- 3/4 cup blueberry yogurt with 1 cup multi-grain flake cereal
- 2 glasses root beer
- 1 cheeseburger on a hamburger bun with bacon, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, and mayonnaise
- 1 1/2 cups sweet potato fries with spicy mayonnaise
- 1 slice chocolate torte cake
- 3/4 cup cheesecake ice cream
- 3/4 cup jelly beans
- 2 cups mint chocolate bar ice cream blend

EXERCISE:
- 10 squats

  1. You really need to lay off that mint chocolate bar ice cream blend. Seriously empty calories that you're eating for the hell of it.

  2. From your very first post:

I am starting this blog to help keep myself on track. My plan is to advertise the URL on a website or two to try and attract some followers who will help keep me in check. One of my main failings in my past weight loss efforts has been that I don't hold myself accountable, so I am hoping that some nice people out there will basically stay on my tail, encourage me when I'm doing well, and kick butt when I have been letting things slide. I am not looking for abuse, but guidance, suggestions, wisdom, understanding, and advice are more than welcome!

  3. I gotta give you credit. Not a lot of people would be as consistently open and honest about eating a boatload of crap. :) You get kudos from me from not shying away from food reality there.

But you're a dessert/sweets/treats junkie. I think you need to strongly consider doing the weeklong "no sugar, no unrefined flour" experiment. Cookies, cakes, ice creams--sugar treats--you just go to town. They're supplanting stuff you should include--fruits and vegetables, notably. Maybe for one week, no sugar. Nothing with sugar except fruits with natural sugar. That might be what gets you back into focus, even if you don't overtly change anything else right now.

    Be well...

  4. I think you need a proper cardio exercise routine. Half an hour a day, 6 days a week.

Your health is going to end up in a really bad way with all this crap food and no consistent activity.

  5. One thing I eat if I am craving a sweet is a 100 calorie pack. Then I include fruit/vegetable in every meal. I walk 5 times a week for 30 minutes to an hour. This is the ONLY way I have consistently lost weight. I am down 46 pounds by changing the way I eat and think! I do go out to eat occasionally but I try to choose lean meats and veggies. I eat red meat, but I eat small portions and have more veggies than anything. Hope this helps!

  6. I've been eating real unhealthy too recently. The more fastfood/snacks/carb i ate, the more i want to eat them!!! *sigh* Time to choose mixed veggie rice daily.

I stop buying snacks/chips to keep at home so that I dont get the chance to eat them. Really salute those who are able to keep chips at home and not eat them!

When I crave for ice cream, I made ice bars using fruit juice + water or ribena drinks (made sure it is not sweet).

  7. I think it might be worth pausing before you eat the mint chocolate bar ice cream blend and asking yourself if it's really that tasty? You eat it a lot, but I suspect it's just a habit and you don't really even enjoy it anymore.

When I eat something that much, I often don't even notice that I'm not enjoying it all--that it just becomes so much of a habit that I feel unsettled when I don't eat it, as though I haven't completed an important daily task.

Good luck breaking this cycle! I think just writing down your feelings (I don't mean here, but for yourself) before eating something treat-like will make you realize whether you really want it, or if you're just automatic pilot.

  9. No advice here. Just an affirmation and random thoughts: your value is not related to what you eat or don't eat.

You are equally as loveable whether you eat candy or carrots, ice cream or iceberg lettuce, whether you weigh 150 or 266.

When it comes to eating, "Doing better" or not "doing better" (to borrow your words) has NO relationship to morality. What you eat is not a moral issue. The quantity of food you eat is not a moral issue.

    Peace to you,
    Robin

  10. I just wanted to drop you a line and say "Hi" from a new follower! :) (That really sounds a bit stalker-ish.) Ignore the stalker feeling of that first line. LOL

Anyway, your story is fantastic. I started my weight loss journey on May 25th of this year. After 20 weeks I've hit my 10% weight loss goal (with still a boatload to go) but I love reading the success stories of others. You have done a remarkable job! Keep it up!

  11. I have just recently started to follow your blog. I am just getting started on this journey.. well.. for the 100th time... LOL. Anyway, I just wanted to say I appreciate your honesty with your food journal. I also have to agree with a previous poster... maybe it would help to keep the junk out of the house. I don't buy ice cream anymore.. I can't. If it's in the house I eat it until it's gone.. then I crave more and more. It becomes a vicious cycle.

Maybe you can keep the ice cream out of the house, and find a way to make it tough to get it. If I really want ice cream, I have to bundle up the kiddo.. get into the car and drive 20 minutes to the nearest store(I live in a rural area). Then get out, get the icecream, get the kiddo back into the car.. kicking and screaming because she didn't get something she wanted.. then drive back home... anyway, the thought of all that hassle keeps me from getting ice cream. :)

Good luck on getting back on track. You've done an amazing job so far!

  12. Don't get discouraged!!!!! You're one of my inspirations! So don't let both of us down! :) And I just want to leave you with a quote... life is a series of peaks and valleys. Your true character is defined by how well you deal with the valleys. Best of luck! :)

  13. My. Some of these comments are pretty rugged.

First, as far as your food list goes--I don't know--you described it as losing control. I have to tell you, I've seen worse. Much worse. That cheeseburger certainly won't help you lose weight...well, okay, nothing on your list except for the water is helpful, but really--it's not like you ate 3 cheeseburgers and I half gallon of ice cream. I don't want to enable--but it could have been much worse. I've done much worse.

I'm new to your blog. You must have been really careful with your eating for a very long time to be so negative about today's food. And your readers must be frightened for you.

So, although you won't lose weight with burgers and ice cream--keep it in perspective.

    Best Wishes.

    Vera

  14. Betsy - I'm pretty sure the "ice cream blend" is actually a McDonald's McFlurry - she has hinted at it being from McDonald's in the past. According to McDonald's website, an Aero Mint McFlurry is 520 calories. And that's just for the SMALL. A large is 700 calories. SEVEN HUNDRED CALORIES. That's half the amount of calories I eat in a WHOLE DAY. That is definitely something that should be an occasional indulgence, NOT a near-daily diet staple! (and then just add it to the list of unhealthy foods already consumed in a day) I think if 266 were to calculate the calories she's getting from the "ice cream blends" in one month she would be shocked! Not to mention the money to pay for them!

It's time to give up the McFlurry addiction! It's just ice cream and candy - NOT worth it!
