Remembering What Is Important

I walked in a 5K this afternoon. It was to raise awareness of those impacted by Alzheimer’s and the donations collected went directly to support this great cause. I was honoured to take part in such an event and I had a wonderful time as my husband and I strolled along with the other participants.

We actually met up with a number of people to take on the walk as a group. One of the men I have not seen in a very long time told me that I still look like I did back in high school. I tried very hard to stifle a giggle since I knew the truth was that he probably wouldn’t have recognized me six months ago, prior to me starting this weight loss journey. Still, it was nice of him to say.

Initially, I actually thought that today’s walk was supposed to be a 10K and that’s what my hubby and I showed up expecting to undertake. By the time we figured out that we were to cover only half the distance we originally assumed, we had already gotten underway. I would have loved to have jogged at least part of it once I found out it was to be so much shorter than I had believed, but I thought it was more important to continue on with the larger assembly. We were, however, among the first people to arrive at the finish line; I had some trouble reigning in my desire to at least walk quickly.

I was a great experience and I am so pleased that I had the chance to be a part of it. I believe that the money they raised was significant, and I am hoping it makes a difference to those whose lives have been touched by dementia.

  5. Awesome! My grandmother also passed away from complications stemming from Alzheimer's...something she suffered from for about 5 years. Thanks for making a difference!
PS - it is inspiration for me to look in my community for 5K walks or runs that support a cause I believe in to sign up for as motivation!

  6. My Nanny also lost her life to Alzheimer's and the disease wrecked havoc on my wedding day with Nanny out of sorts. It's awesome that you support causes with your healthy lifestyle.

I didn't see the original comment about the piercing...makes more sense now. I was imagining you with an eye brow ring, lip ring, tongue stud, marilyn munroe stud...the works!!! :)

  7. Aww... I'm sorry to hear about your Nanny.

Too funny about the piercings though. Physically I'm a plain Jane and good with that; I clean up okay though (although I might look better with a bit more bling... kinda liking the eye brow ring idea)! Lol!
