S.O.S.

I feel unmotivated, un-enthused, and like I just don't really want to keep at this right now. I have very little desire to keep working so hard and that has come out in the last couple of days with my lackluster eating and exercise. I know I'm not doing awful, but the sodium intake and portions have been higher than usual and the activities have reflected the fact that I am simply going through the motions. I am becoming satisfied with mediocrity, and mediocrity currently looks and feels like a bloated body.

I need help.

I have plans today to reign all of this in, to recommit and stay strong despite how I am feeling, but I think this is a fake-it-until-you-make-it scenario and I don't tend to do well with those. I need to get my excitement for this journey back in a genuine manner, but currently I am at a loss as to how...

  1. I am at the complete end of the spectrum as you...just beginning rather than just ending. But I've had YEARS of feeling unmotivated for the fight...which is why the last time I weight under 100 pounds was over 17 years ago!! So...all that to say I can't speak from someone who has been working at it for a long time. BUT I know what kinda revs things up for me when I'm getting discouraged or bored or whatever is to make it fun...change it up. So find a few healthy recipes that sound delish and give them a go. Think out of the box of an activity you can do (even occasionally) that is fun and physically challenging (mine is rock climbing...often sporting goods stores will have a rock wall you can challenge yourself for little cost. Or if you are in a wintery area, cross country skiing or snowshoeing...often park districts will rent the supplies for those activities for pretty cheap. If you are somewhere warm (wish I was) perhaps you can search craiglist for some rollerblades and give that a go...or trail running...or something different. Just throwing ideas out there! But if it is 'fake it til ya make it', do it! Don't let the hard work you've put in already be whittled away by low motivation for too long. You have done the hard part already!!!

  2. way up there where it says 'last time I weighed under 100 pounds..." should really say 'under 200 pounds...' :P I'm pretty sure I'd be dead if I weighed under 100 pounds...typos!

  3. 266, I think a large % of people hit this point. This is hard work, consistency, patience.. but most of all HARD WORK! It is life long & maybe thinking about that gets some people overwhelmed with not only losing it but keeping it off, working out life long etc.

BUT, look at how much you have accomplished, how your are healthier & better for you & loved ones! DON'T give up! If you are at this every day, now might be the time to add in a day off. I worked out 7 days per week for years before I realized it was not good for me. We all need rest. And yes, if you can handle it, have a day when you just enjoy. I am not saying eat everything in site but decide what it is.. like me & my cookie.2 cookies every weekend... which by the way are HUGE cookies & I don't care what they are made of, how much sugar or fat is in them or how many calories. I eat pretty good the rest of the day but that is my fun!

You might just be burring yourself out & time for ac hange in your workout and/or food program.

YOU CAN DO THIS. I think your bod & mind is saying change it up!!!!!!!

  4. I'm feeling the same way you are! As much as I want to get in the gym and eat healthy, I really don't want to be there and it is reflecting in my workouts and eating habits. I guess all we can do is just keep pushing through it. You are pushing through it mentally just by writing it down and putting your feelings out there so others can help you.

  5. Ick...hate days like that. Normally I look back at old "fat" pics of myself to see how far I've come and try to pump myself up that way. The feeling should pass soon...

  7. I think this is going around. Maybe it's the time of year. Let's try to hold on until spring! It's always easier to eat less and exercise more when the weather gets warmer!

  10. I so agree with everybody!! DON'T QUIT!!! Then there will be NO HOPE for the rest of us! ;) Just rest, do something completely different...go for a swim, rock climbing, ANYTHING!!! Treat yourself to a new hair do or make little mini challenges...if I do this exercise I'll go to a movie this weekend or something! Post a whole bunch of BEFORE pics everywhere...that gets me moving! :P

  11. Could it be PMS? I know the ice cream and soda have been calling my name the last 24 hours and I'm like, "What the heck??" Then I think about it and I'm thinking TOM is about to make a visit in a couple of days. I definitely don't feel up to par when TOM is preparing to visit....

"This too shall pass.." I keep reminding myself. :)

You'll keep going. The last five months tells me you won't quit. :)

  12. I effed up the past 5 months and now I feel like I wasted it...
    Woulda coulda shoulda....
It ALWAYS seems like a good idea at the time - the lackluster part.
But maybe you can -correction - WE can all learn that to get something we have to sometimes do something that we are not 100% in love with at the time. And then *boom* the spark returns!
I mean, why we started this journey in the first place.

  13. Isn't it weird how you can be so energized and on fire some days and lack luster other days? I get what you're saying. I know the tide will change...that's life. It sounds like you're dealing with the reality of "now" and I know that you won't give up, no matter the feelings of today. Thinking of you and saying a prayer. Hey, the 160's are just around the corner for you!!! I bet you couldn't have imagined that a year or two ago!?!

  14. I look at where you were and then I see where you are now and I am so proud of you. Look how far you have come!! I mean, you have those pictures on your sidebar and I look at them and think "that's going to be me". You're an inspiration to us all.

You are almost there!! Your little ticker says you have 22 more pounds to go. 22! You can lose 22 pounds in your sleep!! You've already lost 94 pounds; that's some twilight teeny bopper!! Just think how awesome and amazing and beautiful you are. Remember you are doing this for YOU. Your body and your future are thanking you. You are almost there! And I can't wait to celebrate with you when you do get there.

I'm sorry you're having a rough time right now. It will pass. You are amazing.

  15. There's some good advice here, mine is about the same:

Put a pic of you in that red dress where you can see it every day...refrigerator maybe??

Find a new form of exercise...hiking? rollerblading? Something that involves a change of scenery or FUN...this is HUGE in keeping your focus when things get boring.

Try some new recipes, like those tuna cakes you made. They can be found all over the internet if you don't have any cookbooks at home...or go pick up a magazine at the checkout stand of your grocery store, such as Cooking Light. I've made some really fantastic food out of that magazine, and most times all the nutrition stats are posted there for you!! That's my favorite part. :)

I'm not sure I would purposely take an entire week off...but one day of rest and fun are perfectly okay. I hope this helps. I care about you. :)

  16. P.S.....I meant to say one day a week...not one day for the rest of eternity, lol. :)

  17. Ditto to everyone above. I have those times with weight loss, work, school, anything that is going on in my life - that I just want to quit, EVERYTHING. I usually just go through the motions - its ok not to want to do something and do it anyway. I think the excitement will come back for you, you've had it before. I usually look at other's successes and take one of my "cheerleaders" out to dinner to get a reality check.

  19. Don't give up, girl! Look how far you've come and what you've accomplished. Maybe a you need to incorporate a day or two of complete rest and/or maybe yoga? Don't beat yourself up and don't throw in the towel!

  20. You know what? It's not always going to be easy, it's not alway going to be fun. It goes up and down, the thing is to have a stronger determination and stick with it. You say fake it until you make it and that's exactly right.

Stop and look at what all you have accomplished. Look at your photos--WOW, take a good look.

Remember your health never takes a vacation.

It ain't easy--and we have to stick it out through good times and bad.

    You are SOOOOO worth it.

  21. It's that time of the year. Most people start feeling bad around now. In a couple months, the days will be getting longer and warmer. You start wearing those sundresses and cute shorts and such.
Keep in mind that this dark patch you're going through is only temporary. Hang in there!

  24. You are inspiring! Look at what you've done so far. I can be a boot camp instructor if you like - Come on, get up and do it, fake it till you make it. You've gone this far, don't give up now! Keep up the great work.
