Zipping Along

Guess what I did today? Go on… guess. Okay, on second thought, don’t bother because you will never figure it out! It is far too random!

I went zip-lining!!!

Wow! What an experience!!! I had SO much fun! It was a 550 foot line that crossed over the nearby metropolis’ centre area, right above the heads of hundreds of people, and went from a height of about eight stories over street level to approximately four stories above the ground. It was amazing!

This is something that I NEVER could have done at 266 pounds! Not only do they have weight restrictions – which I may have been allowed to just barely skim beneath as I came in at only nine pounds under the absolute maximum – but they also have measurement requirements which I definitely would not have met. They warn that women who are a size 18 are unlikely to fit into the necessary gear and, as I was a size 24W, there was no way that I could have done what I did today in the past.

On top of all that are the serious mental restrictions that I constantly placed on myself 100 pounds ago. I can pretty much guarantee that until these past couple of months I would have convinced myself that there was a serious possibility that my heart couldn’t handle the adrenalin that an experience like that inevitably produces. I would have talked myself out of the chance to do something like this because I so desperately feared my lack of fitness to the point that I thought it was detrimental to my immediate health in stressful situations. Just writing that makes me so sad and incredulous that I ever got to that point! I am so relieved that I am not still in that place now!

It was an awesome, incredible experience and one that I will never forget – for so many reasons! I can’t believe that I did that today, but I also can’t believe that I ever took the opportunity to do so away from myself. No more! This girl is living life to the fullest and if something tries to get in her way, she’ll just zip-line right over it to prove that there are no longer any limitations that can hold her back!

  6. How fun! I used to (long ago!) work at a high ropes course at a camp, and there was a zip line too (though not as long as the one you went on) and it is truly SUCH a thrill. I would not be able to fit into the harnesses now...but hopefully in time I will! PS - I was away from reading and commenting on blogs for a while with my sickies...but I'm back at it and just got caught up with yours. MAJOR CONGRATS on the 100 pound loss...that is SO AWESOME and truly inspiring to those like me who are just out of the starting gates! Thanks for your real, honest and SUCCESSFUL journey you share with us day to day!

  7. Woo Hoo!! I bet that felt incredible. I've been trying to think of things I'd like to do at a smaller size and have such a hard time figuring things out. Maybe I'll add this one to the list!! :)

  8. Ohhh how cool that you were able to do it -- on so many levels. How was the lineup?? What you need to do is go to Whistler and do the whole trip - I did it last summer. Honestly when we were planning the trip I was hesitating because of my weight. I was 25 pounds under the max so decide what the heck - my main fear being weighed in front of everyone (didn't happen). As you experienced yesterday it was a BLAST!!!

How cool - wonder if you were one of the people I might have seen while watching TV. PS we were at the Victory Ceremony on Monday night - frikken awesome and so proud of Alex.

  9. OHHH! I went ziplining about five or six years ago in MEXICO! Isn't it a THRILL?! It's just crazy! I'm glad you are enjoying yourself! That has got to be one of the best parts about losing weight, doing all these things you couldn't do before! Make a list of things you couldn't do before that you can now.. AND DO THEM! goooo skydiving! :) YIPEEEE!

  10. I wish I could just zip-line my way over all this fat I need to lose. Wouldn't that be great? You get on fat at one end and come off thin at the other? Wow. I am so proud of you! That is so cool!

  14. Wow -- that's a great experience! I am completely with you on the self-limited of activities because of my weight. I try not to do it, but I know I still do.

  15. Wow zip line, flashbacks to 7th grade field trips in where we did that! But it sure wasn't 8 stories high over streets full of people, it was in the middle of the wood, was probably 30 feet high, and scared the crap out of us!

  16. I am so proud of you! I could never do that! I am so afraid of heights. Maybe one day I will work at getting over that fear. How awesome that you are making decisions to really start living- very inspirational!

  17. Tammy, do it! It was AMAZING!!!

Joanne, the line-up was an insane six hours long, but I swear it was worth every single second! We were at the Monday ceremony too; wasn't it great to be amid all that heart-felt Canadian pride!?!

Jody, ask and you shall recieve.

Jane, I understand! But it is so not worth continually holding ourselves back! We gotta live!!!

    Thanks for the comments, evrybody!!!
