Fading Afterglow

I feel much better after a good night’s rest. My legs are definitely feeling the effects of the 5K though; they are stiff and achy so I’m not yet sure of what my workouts for the day are going to look like. I may end up having to just concentrate on stomach crunches and arm weights to give them a break, but I know I will figure out how much I can push myself as the day unfolds.

After yesterday’s organized walk (and jog) I am actually feeling a little disconnected. I am still in really good spirits, but I am worried that I will just end up floating around aimlessly on this journey without some direction now that the 5K is over. I think that being so irresolute right now could be detrimental to my progress and I would like to avoid that.

I need to come up with something to look forward to that will help motivate me for the next while. It appears that I do well and get good results when I have a plan in place. So I think coming up with a new short term goal or aspiration will only benefit me as I continue to walk this path to better health.

  2. Planning and short-term goals are a great way to keep the focus where it needs to be. You're tearing it up. Keep up the great work!

  7. Sounds good! You can make mini-goals and hold yourself accountable. Doesn't have to be a race / walk. Try swimming! Join a walking club? Anyway, well done on your achievements so far!!!

  8. Thanks for the suggestions. I am not totally ruling out another race, but because I know how I operate I am not convinced that it would work as a motivator. I will likely do more 5K's in the future (and maybe even a 10K at some point), but the drive won't be there as much as it was for this one. I do have a couple of other ideas, but my day was a bit of a drag so I am going to hold off on decision making for tonight. I really appreciate all of your input on this!

    Jack, I tried cashing in your guarantee at my local Jiffy Lube and they poured the oil on my head when I mentioned your name. Is that how they service cars in your area?

  10. I 100% get what youre saying here and for me I tend to have an overall FITNESS MISSION STATEMENT (big!huge!lofty!) and then smaller steps along the way.

    That way when I nail one goal (as you amazingly did) I still have my overall mission statement to anchor my life.
