Should I Be Worried?

Today was unexpectedly busy. I am starting to get the slightest bit worried about my lack of progress this week and am beginning to wonder if I am hitting a slump. The one saving grace in this line of thinking is that I know I have actually had a lot on my plate and am not just being lazy… I unfortunately do have to accept that there really are only twenty-four hours in a day.

Still, it is a little unsettling to see my progress grind to a virtual halt and to know that I have once more not had a good exercise day. The last thing that I want is for this to become a habit! On top of that, my food intake today was a real struggle. The hungry feeling that I was experiencing in the morning did not go away all day and I definitely ate a lot more than I have been. If I counted calories I am certain that they would have all been blown by midday.

The one piece of good news that I have to share is that I somehow managed to avoid the junk food that I so desperately wanted. Although I feel like I probably overate, I stuck with items that are largely good for me and had nary a chocolate nor a cookie. I really hope things calm down quickly so that I can regain my focus. I am not even close to being done this journey and I have to find a way to build this lifestyle into my daily routine no matter how crazy life gets. For now I just keep telling myself that all it takes is one step in front of the other…

FOOD & BEVERAGES:
- 10 glasses of water throughout the day
- 1 banana
- 3 cups Caesar salad with light dressing and 2 Tb. whole wheat croutons
- 1 wrap on a soft tortilla shell with flaked canned ham, grated cheese, lettuce, dried cranberries, fat free Miracle Whip, mustard, and pepper
- 1/2 cup of raspberries
- 1 slice of pear
- 8 inch sub on a whole wheat bun with ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, olives, green pepper, light mayonnaise, mustard, and pepper
- 8 pieces of a California sushi roll with soy sauce
- 1 mug of chai pumpkin spice steamed soy milk

EXERCISE:
- 50 stomach crunches

  1. Always remember that a plateau is your body's way of slowing down and adjusting to the changes you've made.
Don't stress it -- I had a six-week long scale plateau, but the inches came off still!
    You're doing great!

  2. Looks like you had a lot of sodium this day - the ham in two meals, plus the sushi.
I would guess that it's water retention....
Don't freak out! You'll gain control. You know how to do this - you just need to find a balance.

  3. I think youre doing great! Plataeus happen, they suck, but they happen. Either way you've been showing losses EVERY week. I believe it's three weeks without losing before its considered a plataeu, so I wouldnt panic just yet! Look at how amazing your losses are from week to week :) Very inspirational.

Also-I'd imagine if you put what you listed yesterday into a program like sparkpeople (www.sparkpeople.com) you'd probably be within a normal weight loss calorie range, or at least right around it! I blame the sodium :)

  4. No, I don't think you should be worried! It's early days yet. You will probably hit a plateau at some point-- most people do-- but the scale starts moving again. I am thrilled if I lose 3 lbs a month-- though I do eat quite a bit more than you and (ahem) exercise somewhat less.

  5. I know how you feel, you're chugging along enjoying tremendous success and then... WHAM... brick wall time. Keep in mind that after you've had some rockin' weigh-ins, the small things become a bigger factor going forward. Little bite here, little taste there. That's what I ran into anyway. That and the fact that I wasn't continuously pushing myself harder with the workouts. When I recognized what I was doing, the weight started coming off again.

    Good luck.

  6. I'm glad you didn't eat any junk food that you were craving. That's a win. Just get back into those rockin' exercise routines and the weight will continue to fall off...you're doing just fine...and yes, just keep putting one foot in front of the other. When things get too hectic, take it back down to "one day at a time"....you'll pull through. You want this...and you're going to get it. :)

  7. I agree with Tammy, the fact you did not give in to the temptation of the junk food is a great accomplishment. I understand your frustrations because I had a plateau that lasted a couple of months and it really unmotivsted me, now the inches and pounds seem to really be coming off!

  11. Oh, Hallie, do it! It is SO yummy! I haven't looked up the calories though... I don't want to know! It's (gasp) Starbucks and I ask for a steamed soy milk with pumpkin spice flavouring, but with one of the four pumps they give to be chai flavouring. Mmmmmm...
