Loving The Attention

As promised, I wanted to recap a little about yesterday’s events. It was like the sun came out and all of a sudden people could see clearly! I had four different people tell me that I look like I have lost a lot of weight!

It is actually kind of strange that all of this has just started to happen since I slipped over the fifty pound mark. I have been told by a couple of different bloggers that it is the number that their own friends and family started noticing and commenting at – so I was sort of prepared – but I guess I just didn’t think it would be such a complete switch like it has been.

I already wrote about how the first and second people to note my loss only recently voiced their recognition as I passed the fifty pound mark. With yesterday’s additions, I am kind of taken aback by how different it suddenly is from the utter silence on the topic that I was beginning to think would never change.

I am very happy to finally be getting a little validation. Not everyone in my social circle has said something, but at least I am no longer feeling like the weight I have dropped is indiscernible. Two of the individuals that I saw yesterday haven’t seen me since before the start of this blog so the difference to them was apparently obvious as soon as I walked into the room. The other two people who commented though saw me last week. Weird!

One of the women who noted my shrinking waistline said that she was, “surprised by how good I look now.” I laughed out loud at that! I knew that her statement was well-intended and that she was simply pointing out that the losses have taken place in a short amount of time, but I teased her about it being a backhanded compliment anyhow. Another girl whose remark was actually passed onto me – since she didn’t feel comfortable saying it to me directly – was that she could not believe how much smaller I was. It was so nice to hear! I have got to say that it is so great to know that people are finally paying attention to the hard work I have been putting forth into changing my lifestyle.

  2. Yea! The compliments are so nice to hear! Some people just can't bring themselves to say them to you sometimes though, they usually have their own issues to deal with so don't let it bother you!
    Keep up the good work!

  3. Oh, I'm so excited for you! I'm also excited because I will hit the 50 mark soon, and maybe the same will be true for me.

In my case, in my workplace, I have lost weight before and put it back on, so people will probably be afraid to say anything, or else not say anything because they figure it's just a temporary thing. They can't tell by looking that my whole mindset is different now!

Woo hoo for you! I'm glad you are getting the feedback that feels so good!

  4. When people notice, it's a powerful motivator! I can't wait to attend a certain Christmas even coming in early December -- because I WANT to hear people say something... or see the look in their eyes!
    Bravo to you!

  6. Awesome job! It's so nice to receive compliments. Hopefully when I hit the 50 lbs lost mark I'll start hearing them too :) My skinny friends lose 5lbs and everyone notices, apparently I have to lose 50 to keep up!

  9. Nice to have your good work noticed! Re the girl who was embarrassed to say anything, not everyone enjoys hearing, "You lost weight!" so I'm careful about saying it. Did you wear anything new and formfitting? Sometimes that really gets people's attention.

  10. Sometimes I'm afraid to say anything for fear it will be taken as a too-personal comment, especially as a lot of my co-workers come from different countries.
The other day, a co-worker mentioned that someone else didn't approve of him, "because he was fat." That opened the door so I could say, honestly, that he was /not/ fat and how impressed I was with all the weight he'd lost. I was glad to get the chance to tell him that.

  13. Thanks everyone! And, Larkspur, you are exactly correct; I was wearing nice new formfitting stuff and figured that had to do with the high degree of recognition!
