That's What Friends Are For

I was at my oldest friend’s house today and when I was ready to leave he asked if I was going to walk home like I have been lately. I told him that I was and he warned me that I had to be careful walking alone after dark. I responded that of course I would be and reassured him that I would only be walking along the main streets that are well lit and highly trafficked. At this point he looked me up and down and told me to be cautious anyhow since there is now more reason for me to be worried. To be clear, this was his backhanded way of telling me that I am getting progressively more attractive as I drop the weight – he’s always loved me regardless of my size, so I let him get away with those types of observations.

Anyhow, I laughed and he gave me a hug and told me that I am looking great. It is so nice to have the people that I care about finally noticing the changes. Admittedly, the more analytical part of me wonders at the few closer friends who have not yet mentioned anything, but I am content for now that most seem to be aware of how hard I am working at this. And to have had my best friend take note and congratulate me today means the world!

  1. It feels so good to hear from others that what we're doing is working and showing.

btw ... you haven't updated your weight on the sidebar and my curiosity is getting the better of me :)

  2. I like to analyze why people don't say something, too. Sometimes,it could be they think you will be offended that they see a positive change, meaning you had to have looked "worse" before. In fact, I've heard people who've lost weight complain about that. Sometimes the observer just doesn't know how a comment will be taken and they're afraid!

In my case, I've lost weight before, so people never know what they'll see when they see me next. For them it must get kind of old to comment on my weight loss: "I see you've gone down in size...again! Congratulations!"

But, I know you still wonder why people don't comment! I'm almost at the 50# point and only 3 people have said anything (my daughter, my friend, and my husband). NO one at work has said anything.
