Hip-Checked, Cutbacks, And (Not So) Real Estate

I went for a couple of good walks today and my hips are killing me. I think I am suffering the postponed effects of jogging for half an hour out of the blue yesterday. I actually had to put a pain relief rub on them so I am hoping they will be okay by tomorrow.

I have given a lot of thought to this and I have decided that I am going to have to cut back on my posting just until after the holidays. Normally I do two entries every day and I am going to have to half that for the next couple of weeks. I am starting to panic because I haven’t much time left to get organized for Christmas and I don’t want my exercise to end up being the thing that suffers. Along the same lines, I will do my best to keep up with my blog reading during this time, but I may have to let a little of that go too, so if you don’t hear from me please don’t think I’ve forgotten you.

This online community means so much to me and I would not have done nearly as well as I have over these past four months without all of the support and inspiration I receive from fellow bloggers. I am remaining committed to posting daily and will restart the twice daily entries as soon as the rush of the season is over. The same goes for the blog reading; if I fall behind I will make sure I catch up before too long.

In the meanwhile, I do have one fun Christmasy thing for everyone… I was reading a post over at The Crazy Woman Inside Me and started thinking that it might be fun to expand on an idea of hers and invite my readers to share in the comments section of this post the strangest gift they have ever received (or given). It's the time of year when presents are on the minds of many and I thought it might be interesting to hear about what oddities have been exchanged in past Christmases, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

For me, I would have to go with the moon property my father gave me one year. No word of a lie: I can build a house on Earth’s only natural satellite. It would have been nice if he had also financed the rocket ship required to get there, but what are you going to do?

FOOD & BEVERAGES:
- 10 glasses of water throughout the day
- 1 banana
- 3 hard boiled eggs with fat free Miracle Whip
- 1 wrap on a soft tortilla shell with roast chicken, grated cheese, lettuce, dried cranberries, fat free Miracle Whip, mustard, and pepper
- 2 cups cream of mushroom soup
- 1 orange

EXERCISE:
- 1 hour and 30 minutes of walking completed in 2 outings (both 45 minutes long)

  1. My worst present has got to be the very lovely bath bomb when I only have a shower in my home!

  3. One thing that has caused NUMEROUS disappointments in my life is people trying to give me clothes as gifts. I am 6'3" so no matter where I am in my weight, I avoid long sleeves as they won't be long enough; and a shirt that fits you like a tunic will be a crop-top on me. LOL!

My size is always MUCH bigger than what you'd expect no matter where I am in my weight so people always get the wrong size. Also, as a tall, big gal, some things just aren't for me. I can't pull off any look that is "cute". I can't tell you how many times over the years I have received ill-fitting or completely inappropriate clothing as gifts and had to hide my disappointment to avoid hurting someone's feelings.

One year someone gave me a pair of fuzzy slippers that looked like teddy bears and thought they'd fit me because they were a women's size X-large. HELLO! First of all, a MAN's extra large won't fit me-- my feet are men's size 12. Second, I am an amazon, do I LOOK like someone who would WANT to wear fluffy bear slippers? LOL LOL LOL

Hope this made you laugh and hope your hips don't hurt when you chuckle!

  5. My mother in law gave me a carved wooden fish clock one year. Evidently clocks are something she likes...the next year I got a cuckoo clock that had a deer head instead of the cuckoo bird. She evidently like wildlife too!!! Neither went on display in my home..LOL

  6. LOL @ Angie! My MIL loves giving us coin collections....And each member of the family gets their own set too.
I can't say I've gotten bad gifts, although people do seem to put me in the make up and perfume category, even though I've not worn make up in like years now, but I suppose I used to.
The best gift I've ever gotten is from my 1st hubby. He had bought a necklace and earrings and a watch for me and hidden it in the closet at home. He passed away 11/7, a little before Christmas, but I found his gifts shortly after his passing. I've still got the watch on, right as I'm typing this.
And I've also got a piece of moon property.... maybe we can be neighbours! :) LOL

  7. Blogging and blog reading takes a lot of time. I hate that I don't have the time to give to it that I once did. Take time off, don't worry, and know we're all thinking of you. =)

Anything strange would be any gift from my MIL. The size medium shirt she bought me when I was a 2X, the size 4X shirt she bought me whe I was an XL. And all the crappy junk in between. Thankfully she does gift cards now. lol

  8. I think we are all feeling the pressure of time over this festive season, there is not enough time for everything we need to or want to do. I am sure we will all be taking a step back from Blogland over the next week or so. I am even more sure we will be back together in the New Year.

Can't think of any weird presents right now but I know I have had some.

Hope your hips are feeling a little better now.

    Hugs

  9. We all totally understand the craziness of the season & honestly, it amazes me that you post twice a day! I have trouble with one post!

As for those hips, take acre there! I am known to overdo too when I get excited about doing something!

I can't think of any weird gifts I have received.... people know me to well do I get gift certs for places I like or coffee I like so I wish I had a good story to tell.. but I don't! Yours, on the other hand.. TOO MUCH! Never heard of that!

  10. Hmmm, I can't think of anything. My mom likes to give me the toys from Happy Meals (I don't get it either--I HATE McDonald's!), but as for Christmas gifts, I can't think of anything.

I don't like it when people give me perfume, though, which my dad does just about every year. I'm very particular about my perfume, so I never like the ones other people pick out for me. Give me L'Air du Temps or White Musk from the Body Shop, or nothing at all. I finally told him not to buy me perfume anymore.

He's also bought me makeup, though I rarely wear it, but I don't mind that because at least I have it when I need it.

  11. I don't have any holiday worst present stories to share. However, I do have an anniversary worst present ever story to share.

My MIL bought me the MOST horrendous earrings. Imagine something Queen Elizabeth I would treasure. They were AWFUL. Gold, with little imitation "jewels" and a big huge imitation pearl dangling at the end. She expected me to wear them, so believe it or not I used to wear them to make her happy. I was happy when we moved back to Texas, so I didn't have to wear them ever again!

  12. Last year my best friend got me a stuffed reindeer that dances to C&C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat". Definitely strange, but funny!

  13. Wow! Some of those gifts really are a little scary... lol! Sheridan, thanks for sharing such a personal story. Also, thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one in the world who may one day live in another... grin!
