Richard Simmons Is My Nemesis

I feel like bawling like a little baby right now!

I borrowed an old tape my mother had - Richard Simmons: Sweating to the Oldies - just to throw something different into my workout and maybe get a laugh. I was about twenty minutes in and it was going well, I was periodically giggling to myself about the onscreen antics and certainly not having any trouble keeping up, when... BAM!!!

I absolutely smoked my heel against the rim of the solid wood coffee table behind me as I was doing a basic hamstring curl! I am in so, so much pain right now! I honestly think I did some serious damage. I have an ice pack on it which I managed to procure after sitting in shock and agony for two minutes and then hobbling to the kitchen, using the walls for balance.

All I can envision is months of hard work being flushed down the drain by forced immobility. I hurt and I am scared and there is already a bruise and swelling. How could I have done this?!

  1. Nothing is going to undo all the work you've done. NOTHING!

Don't panic. Wait and see what morning brings. Keep the ice on it.

Let us know how you're doing in the morning.

    Hugs.

  2. Oh no! Ouch! Maybe you should go to the doctor.

I know you're in pain and scared, but it's way too early to panic. For all you know it's just a bad bruise and will be gone in a week or so. At least I hope that's the case.

*Will refrain from telling you about Richard's "Sit Tight" DVD--just in case you end up needing it--until you're feeling a bit better.*

  4. Yikes - move the coffee table for work outs! I agree, don't panic. Hurting yourself is not going to change the success you've already encountered. Even the most elite athletes take a rest week from exercise. Take care of your injury and it will heal. Sunshine Mama has a similar problem - she's banged her knees up good!

  6. Ouch ! I'm sorry to read about your injury - but it definitely won't be undoing all your hard work. You are too strong for that....
Keep it iced, give it rest and you will be back at it in no time....

  7. You poor love, I understand your panic after all the hard work you have put in.

Hopefully by now that inital severe agony has subsided and there is no lasting damage.

This is not going to wreck your journey, you are too strong to let that happen.

    Sending healing thoughts

    Big hugs

  9. I once dropped a rock on the top of my foot and I got this huge knot that was incredibly ugly. I couldn't put a shoe on or anything. It went away after a week.
A heel is a pretty hard thing to damage.
I hope it feels better tomorrow. Good luck.

  10. Thank so much, everyone! Checking in on your comments kept me calm tonight and my heel is feeling a bit better. I was just panicing, but I think it will be okay. Dawne, I totally DID move the table, but I guess I just backed up too far and misjudged the room I had. That'll learn me!
