Struggling

Well, we were all set to have the last of the Christmas goodies out of the house today, but my in-laws dropped off some homemade baking. Eek! So good! I will have to get my husband to take those into work with him tomorrow like he did with all of the other stuff today. My willpower continues to wane, and I just can’t risk having such tempting sweets in the house right now. I have already indulged in a couple of things this afternoon and evening and don’t want to let those types of behaviors slip into yet another day.

I am also feeling a bit annoyed with my exercise. At this point I don’t know if I am making excuses or not. I was all set to try a new video tonight after a quick visit from a friend. The ‘quick visit’ turned into a nearly four hour one and now it is late and I have to go to bed. I really can’t tell if this is a valid reason for not doing better with my workout or just another way to get out being active.

I’m not feeling terribly motivated right not, but I am trying to get my enthusiasm back. I am stressed out that my weigh-in on Saturday may be my first bad one – as in, a gain – so I am having a hard time wrapping my brain around the ‘one or two bad days does not need to equal a destroyed week’ mentality. I just need to get back at it…

FOOD & BEVERAGES:
- 10 glasses of water throughout the day
- 4 cups Caesar salad with baby shrimp, Parmesan cheese, and croutons
- 1/2 slice garlic bread
- 1 heated turkey sandwich on a whole grain bun with fat free Miracle Whip, mustard, margarine, and pepper
- 1 homemade square from a confetti bar
- 1/3 cup smokehouse almonds
- 4 cups spinach salad with herb goat cheese, croutons, dried cranberries, orange pepper, and calorie-wise Greek feta and oregano dressing
- 1 homemade gingerbread cookie decorated with smarties
- 3 miniature Mandarin oranges
- 1 1/2 cups reduced calorie homemade trifle

EXERCISE:
- 15 lunges for each leg

  1. I think we all go thru these phases in life & with our weight loss programs. This is hard stuff & a lifelong commitment. Sometimes even if we are doing great, like you are, that fear of failure (my tomorrow post), expectations from others & ourself & the can I really keep doing this takes over. Try to work thru these emotional issues. Ask yourself why you are feeling this way. Is it the fear of the expectations?

YOU CAN DO THIS! It does not have to be perfect all the time but consistency is key! Don't let one day turn to 2 then 2 weeks & before you know it, you don't go back.

If you are burned out a bit from the constant day to day, just give yourself the OK to ease up but don't stop! OR try some new activities for the exercise. Also, make yourself first! You are better for others when you help yourself. Saying NO to people is hard but you have to do it to help yourself.

Hang in there. This is part of the process, a learning one & just talk yourself thru the why's & find the answers for why you should do it.

  2. Don't let those darn scales weigh so heavy on your mind. So what if you have enjoyed a few Christmas treats. Tis the season.

You know what to do. Your mojo will return. Remember, everything cycles back around if you just hang on. I haven't wanted to walk this past week myself. I have to cut myself alittle slack. I can't be 100% everyday. Who can?!

    Have a great New Year's!

Good idea getting that stuff out of your house. I have done the same thing.

  3. The plan to exercise has gone out the window for me too many times with unexpected interruptions in my day and evening. If I can do it in the morning, I get it out of the way no matter what else the day brings. And it always brings something!

Your progress has been truly inspiring. Don't let your in-laws' goodies drag you down. Do they know how hard you're working?

  4. I do think a crucial part of this process is learning to accept some bumps in the road. I'm with you on the treats though. I'm not bringing any to friends unless asked because I'm thinking, do I need another delicious homemade sweet in this house? No!

  5. If you have one "bad" weigh-in, it's not going to negate all the amazing work you've done so far. You're doing the right thing by getting rid of the junk in the house.
As far as the exercise - you may have to push yourself a bit more for a couple of days - it's easy to get out of that habit and start finding excuses not to do it. Once you push yourself into a few workouts, you'll get that mojo back.

  7. You've had such amazing success - never showing a single loss. It actually helps me to know that you're struggling a bit, though I'm sorry and know how hard that can be. I like what Jenn said...part of this whole process is being able to get right back on track if we overdo a bit and not letting it mess up our heads. I expect your motivation will be back quickly...just think of those regular sized clothes you just bought that fit! You are truly an inspiration.

  8. This is what we call life and you are doing fine. If you can keep yourself from ruining your week that's great. If you kind of "lose it" that's okay also. It's just a bump in the road and you're not a failure for it, nor will it ruin the rest of your weight loss.

    Remember...

Hang in there, you'll make it through this. Just don't give up!

Lately it's your pictures and blog that keep coming to mind and encourage me that I'll get back on track.

  9. You can do this. Sometimes I think the scale is worse then the food. It plays with our minds. I know if I think I am going to have a bad weigh in I am in a slump which I shouldn't be it should push you more. You will get through this. Look how far you have already come!

  10. The holidays are tough on everyone. Just hit "reset" and vow to return to your kick-ass ways in January.

  11. So, you are normal? We all go through this and you're right - a few days of over doing it doesn't have to be a week of over doing it. Did you know that it takes 3,500 extra calories to make you gain a true pound of body weight. Check out Enz's site today because it has a link regarding weigh in's and fluctuations, that I found very helpful.

  12. What Dawne said.

You're beating yourself up for being normal over Christmas? For letting spending time with your friends and family be more important than exercise for a few days? For enjoying good food and company a little more than usual for a few days?

Give yourself a shake!! You are doing amazingly well. This is for the rest of your life, remember? One blip or a few blips are not going to be your downfall.

    Hugs.

  13. I feel the same way you do right now.

Let's you and me make a pact: Come January 2nd, we get back on the wagon full-time and stop anything that might possibly be an excuse. You in?

I picked January 2nd because then there is no more excuse of it being the holidays. They will be over, and we should definitely be getting back at it.

  14. Let the overindulging go and move on. It happens to everyone. Make the decision to end it right now and get right back on track. You can do it and you are worth it!

You are doing a fabulous job!!!

Hang in there and give yourself credit for all you have done so far.

  15. You've lost quite a bit each week. It's normal to bounch back up. It's a journey.

You should be damn proud of yourself for how well you've done.

    DON'T GIVE UP.

I did and gained 30lbs back. It's one freaking week. Let go of the guilt and past. move on.

2010 is your year. Keep going.
