'Skip Meal - Oh!' Sounds Like 'Olympics' Backwards

Oddly enough when I was trying to come up with a title for this post, it suddenly jumped out at me that the above heading is true and I just couldn’t pass up pointing it out. If only I had noticed the connection was there earlier I may have had a different experience with my eating today…

The best way that I can describe the day’s food and beverage intake is to say that it was atypical. Basically, it consisted of only two large meals and a piece of fruit towards the end of the evening. Plus, I drank three cups of tea and not nearly enough water. These are all very unusual behaviours for me given my habits these past six months.

Both meals were from restaurants too and – given the nature of the food – quite high in sodium, I suspect. My mother took us out for the first meal to thank us for meeting her at the airport and I did order one of the healthier items on the menu. Plus, (when I was preparing a salad, I might add) we received a phone call from one of my best friend’s who needed to be picked up as she had just been in a car accident and was having her vehicle towed. We rushed to help her immediately and then, after getting her settled in at her home, my husband went to pick up food at a couple of nearby eateries. Their portions were smaller than most so he brought me back two and I ate most of them as it had been quite a while since the first meal. I also made my friend a cup of tea to help soothe her nerves and helped myself to a mug, which quickly turned into three. I think drinking the warmer beverages is what threw me off of my water intake. Of course, having such a full and out of the ordinary day, and consuming the larger amounts of food, meant that I didn’t eat every two or three hours like I normally do either.

Overall, I don’t feel that I made poor choices, but there was definitely some major deviation from the healthier customs that I have set in place. I do, however, genuinely feel that the items eaten were done so largely due to the necessity of adjusting to what life throws at you, rather than any purposeful straying off plan, or – more specifically – off routine.

I now, perhaps inevitably, turn to the topic that is likely on the minds of many of my countrymen tonight. I just have to say that I am so proud of both our Olympic athletes and of Canadians as a whole! I honestly feel like these last two and a half weeks have helped show the world the incredible depths of our patriotism, the startling beauty of the land, the unending capacity of our hearts, the intricacies of a many facetted culture, and the unquenchable nature of our spirits. I am honoured to be able to call myself Canadian!!!

  4. I think everything you drink (hot or cold)(except for Soda, Coffee etc...) counts towards daily water intake.
    Kepp it up!

  5. I'm not sure if the tea counts towards the daily water intake but it is considered a clear liquid. It is a water based drink so it will help rather than hurt (unless you pack it with sugar).

    keep motivated!

  7. Sometimes life throws a wrench in your plans, and you just have to make the best choices you can. I don't think you did too bad....sodium is probably high, but it flushes if you drink enough water. :)
